A Wilkinsburg man was fatally shot by a police officer after firing at Wilkinsburg police during a foot chase early Sunday.

Romir Talley, 24, died at 1:16 a.m. in the 900 block of Wilkinsburg’s Center Street, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Allegheny County Police are investigating the incident that began just after 1 a.m., when Wilkinsburg police responded to a 911 call about a man threatening another person with a gun at Penn Avenue and Wood Street.

A man fitting the description took off on foot when officers arrived in the 800 block of Penn Avenue and led them on a brief chase, county police said. The fleeing man, later identified as Talley, fired at the pursuing police with a handgun and was shot and killed when a Wilkinsburg officer returned fire.

The Wilkinsburg officer who fired the fatal shot has been placed on standard administrative leave.

The Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office is reviewing the incident.
