A man is in stable condition after crashing his vehicle into Pittsburgh’s West End Bridge and jumping into the Ohio River, according to the city’s department of public safety.

The crash happened just before 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Witnesses told police that a man got out of the crashed vehicle, stepped on the railing and jumped into the water.

A river rescue team found the man swimming toward shore and brought him on board a boat.

The man told police he wanted to harm himself, the public safety department said.

He was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

No charges are expected. Police will help him find help after his injuries are treated, according to the department.
