Authorities responded to this suspicious car found parked outside the Pittsburgh FBI office on the South Side on Thursday morning.

A man who left a car painted with “gibberish” at the gate of the FBI’s Pittsburgh offices on the South Side turned himself in Friday, a spokeswoman said.

The man won’t be identified, FBI spokeswoman Catherine Policicchio said. He appears to suffer from mental illness, she said, and he is receiving help with the assistance of his family.

There were no threats to public safety, but the Pittsburgh police bomb squad and K9 units responded to inspect the car, which was found about 5 a.m. Thursday at the back gate of the FBI’s offices on Carson Street.

A message painted on car read: “RUSSIA PLANTS MICRORADIO DEVICES IN PPLS EARS & CONTROLS THEM USING A SOUND SIMILAR TO A DOG WHISTLE. SUBLIMINAL HYPNOSIS.”

Policicchio didn’t say if the man will be charged in the case.
