Mark Cuban says he's trying to buy 'The O' in Oakland
Mark Cuban is trying to resurrect a recently closed famous food spot in Pittsburgh.
Cuban told the Tribune-Review that there was “nothing new” to report on a potential deal to buy The Original Hot Dog Shop in Pittsburgh’s Oakland section as of Thursday.
“I inquired. We haven’t been able to work anything out,” Cuban told the Trib by email.
“I can’t say it will happen,” Cuban said, “but it’s not dead yet, either.”
The owners of the building could not be reached. The number for the restaurant has been disconnected.
As a guest on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Thursday, the “Shark Tank” star and Mt. Lebanon native talked to McAfee about the NBA’s possible return, the hit ABC show, a possible presidential run and more.
At the interview’s end, the Dallas Mavericks owners told McAfee, a former standout kicker at Plum High School, that he was trying to buy The Original Hot Dog Shop, which closed in April.
“We’re not done trying to buy the ‘Dirty O.’ … I’m still trying to figure out a way to buy it. It’s not over for all those Pittsburghers out there,” Cuban said on the talk show.
“You’re gonna go save it? You’re gonna be like a Pittsburgh hero?” McAfee responded.
“I’m trying. It’s a long shot. They’re making it hard. They’re closed. Just sell me the stuff,” Cuban said. “They’re over-negotiating, so we’ll see what happens.”
Cuban left Mt. Lebanon High School early and studied at University of Pittsburgh for his first year of college, later transferring to Indiana University.
