The Allegheny County Medical Examiner determined the cause of the unexpected death of a 41-year-old Monroeville woman four days after a crash this month.

Nicole Hilla died from a hypoxia brain injury, the medical examiner’s office said. She died at Forbes Hospital on Nov. 8 while being treated for injuries suffered in a crash in the 2800 block of Broadway Boulevard on Nov. 4.

Her death was ruled an accident.

Authorities were surprised to learn that Hilla had died after the crash, a head-on collision that Monroeville police Chief Doug Cole said did not seem suspicious.

Cole said Hilla, who was not wearing a seat belt, had only minor abrasions to her mouth and nose.
