A Monroeville man convicted of distribution of fentanyl to someone who overdosed and died was sentenced to 12 years and seven months in federal prison, U.S. Attorney Scott W. Brady announced Friday.

Ryan Williams, 31, was also found guilty of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Authorities said Williams distributed fentanyl on Nov. 23, 2016, to someone who later used it and died from an overdose.

A Glock .40 caliber pistol was found in his possession during a search at his home in December 2016. Authorities said Williams is not permitted to possess a firearm due to his prior felony convictions. Court documents show Williams was convicted of possession with intent to deliver or manufacture a controlled substance on May 4, 2015.

Brady commended the Monroeville Police Department and the FBI for the investigation.
