Mullaney's Harp & Fiddle named top Irish pub in Pa.
It’s always great when a beloved Pittsburgh spot gets some national love.
Although it’s hard to not to react with a “Yeah, we knew that!”
Well, Pittsburghers might know about Mullaney’s Harp & Fiddle in the Strip District, but the editors of a pair websites are taking the news to the masses.
Harp & Fiddle has been picked among Delish’s list of the Best Irish Pub In Every U.S. State as Pennsylvania’s top spot. The same is the case at TravelPulse.
Mullaney’s marketing director Shannon Boyle Kearney says it’s “a fantastic recognition for us.”
“We are humbled and grateful for this title,” she says. “The pub has always been No. 1 in our hearts and to many loyal patrons throughout Pittsburgh.”
In putting together Delish’s list, Courtney Iseman writes that “these are the spots to hit not just on March 17, but any time you’d like.”
Over the years, Mullaney’s has built a strong following among its customers.
A quick look at responses on their Facebook page will tell you that much.
The pub found out about the honor one night as employees and patrons watched the evening news.
“When the title was announced in the news story, everyone inside the pub starting clapping and cheering,” Boyle Kearney says. “(It) was a very special moment.”
What draws Pittsburghers to Mullaney’s?
“We pride ourselves on pouring the perfect pint (of Guinness) … and serving delicious Irish cuisine,” Boyle Kearney says. She also points out there’s often live Irish music most nights of the week.
The pub opened in 1992 after Harp & Fiddle’s owners — Anne Mullaney, Brian Mullaney and Sean Patrick Murphy — decided the city needed an authentic Irish pub. The pub is currently owned by David Regan.
Anne Mullaney died in 2011. But Boyle Kearney says the pub continues to celebrate her legacy.
“As a female community leader and business woman, the pub was her pride and joy — to have a place anyone could go to enjoy the ‘craic’ with friends and always feel welcomed and comfortable,” she says.
Harp & Fiddle is at 2329 Penn Ave. in Pittsburgh’s Strip District.
