No new coronavirus deaths reported in Allegheny County for 2nd straight day
The Allegheny County Health Department reported 20 additional cases of the coronavirus Monday, but no new deaths. The county has had 102 deaths and 1,365 cases in total.
The health department said 14% — 194 cases — in the county are in health care workers.
The county also reported no new deaths Sunday, though there were 12 additional cases reported. The county said the reporting of no additional deaths may be the result of a delay in reporting over the weekend.
Of the 102 reported deaths, 92 are listed as confirmed cases of covid-19, while 10 are considered probable. All deaths are of individuals aged 42 to 103, the county said.
A case is listed as probable when a person displays symptoms of covid-19 and has had close contact with a confirmed positive case, but has not had a test themselves. The county health department is including those probable cases to assess community spread.
Countywide, there have been 1,310 confirmed and 55 probable cases of the virus since the first case was reported in the county March 14. Fifty-seven percent of all covid-19 cases were people older than 50, the county said, and 35% of cases were people between the ages of 25 and 49.
There has been 240 hospitalizations in the county since the first case was reported, two more than on Sunday. That count includes 101 cases that were treated in intensive care units and 61 that required a ventilator.
More than 18,502 have been tested for coronavirus in Allegheny County as of Monday, 330 more than were reported Sunday.
