North Hills DUI checkpoint in Indiana Township nets 4 arrests

Four people were arrested Saturday at a sobriety checkpoint along Route 910 in Indiana Township, officials said.

There were 570 vehicles that passed through the checkpoint and eight people who were given field sobriety tests.

Of those tested, one was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs and three were arrested for possession of marijuana, officials said. One citation was issued for a vehicle code violation. Ten warnings were administered for motor vehicle violations.

This is the 17th year that the North Hills DUI Task Force has been in operation. It is comprised of police officers from Indiana Township, West Deer, O’Hara, Etna, Millvale, Ross, Shaler, Northern Regional, McCandless and West View.

The task force to date has conducted 227 checkpoints or roving patrols and tested about 2,100 people for DUI, officials said. Of those tested, 950 have been arrested, officials said.
