One of four suspects charged with killing a Pittsburgh cab driver found guilty

A Pittsburgh man will spend the rest of his life in jail for his role in the 2017 fatal beating of a cab driver in the city’s Beltzhoover neighborhood.

Daniel Russell, 22, was found guilty Thursday of second-degree murder, robbery and conspiracy.

He was one of four charged in connection with the killing of Ramadhan Mohamed, 31, a Solami zTrip driver from the North Side.

Police said Mohamed responded to a fare on Climax Street about 1:30 a.m. Feb. 21, 2017.

He was found later that morning and died at at a Pittsburgh hospital a few days later.

According to the criminal complaint, a witness told police the four men were planning to rob a pizza delivery driver, but the shop was closed. So they decided to call a cab and rob it.

The witness told authorities Russell kicked Mohamed in the face and neck in an attempt to kill him.

He later bragged about how badly he beat Mohamed, court documents read.

Allegheny County Common Pleas Judge David Cashman presided over Russell’s jury trial.

Second-degree murder carries a mandatory life sentence without parole. His sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 18.

The three other men, King Edwards, 22, Christen Glenn, 21, and Hosea Moore, 23, are all pending trial, according to Allegheny County District Attorney spokesman Mike Manko.

Following a jury trial in front of Judge David Cashman, Daniel Russell was convicted today of 2nd degree murder, robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery in the beating death of Ramadhan Mohamed. Russell faces mandatory life when sentenced on February 18, 2020.
