Giant Eagle in Parkway Center Mall will reopen to in-person shopping Thursday after serving since May solely as a curbside pick-up location.

The company announced the move Tuesday, saying that increased capacity for contactless pick-up at neighboring Giant Eagle stores made the time right to revert to in-store service at the McKinney Lane site.

The store in Parkway Center, near Greentree, was converted on May 3 to meet sharp demand for curbside pick-up during the height of the coronavirus pandemic. The store will reopen to the public at 7 a.m. Thursday.

“(Covid-19) gave us an urgent opportunity to innovate, finding ways to offer contactless grocery pickup and home delivery on a large scale and the conversion of our Parkway Center store was critical in meeting the needs of Pittsburgh-area guests,” Giant Eagle spokeswoman Jannah Jablonowski said.

Same-day and next-day pickup and delivery slots are now available to guests at most locations, Jablonowski said.

Shoppers can continue to place orders for curbside pickup and home delivery at that store from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.
