Penn Hills man charged in connection to October shooting at White Hawk Cafe
A Penn Hills man has been charged in connection to an October shooting that left a bar owner shot in the stomach.
Police say Davaughn Jones, 27, shot Barry White in the stomach after White attempted to throw him out of his private social club along Universal Road in Penn Hills.
Jones has been charged with aggravated assault, criminal attempt, recklessly endangering another person and illegal possession of a firearm.
He is being held at Allegheny County Jail on a $250,000 bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 13.
Jones came to White Hawk Café with two people, donned in a gray hoodie that was draped over his head, according to a criminal complaint filed against him.
White, the bar owner, told police Jones had been repeatedly “trying to sneak in and would attempt to use others’ identification cards.”
So when Jones couldn’t produce his ID, White asked him to leave the bar. The confrontation led to a small fight, police said, that ultimately ended near the bar’s front door. Surveillance video then shows Jones struggling to leave the bar until he breaks free.
In the video, Jones takes a couple steps before turning around and shooting White, who was still at the front door.
“(White) stated the look on Jones’ face was ‘as if he wanted to kill me,’” police wrote in the criminal complaint.
After the shot, Jones ran from the bar toward Frankstown Road, police said. But Jones eventually returned to the black 2019 Subaru Forester he came in, police said.
The SUV was driven by Karlie Serakowski. According to court records, she has not been charged by police in connection with the incident.
The criminal complaint said Jones was arrested in Penn Hills on Nov. 8 for an unrelated incident. When interviewed, he admitted to being at the bar that night, being confronted by White and regularly using cocaine, Xanax and heroin.
The criminal complaint said Jones couldn’t remember getting in the getaway vehicle because of his drug use.
Police said witnesses were able to identify Jones as the one who shot White.
