Firefighters battle a blaze at a Pitcairn home near the intersection of 12th Street and Brinton Avenue Monday.

A Pitcairn family is being helped by relatives after their home caught fire Monday evening.

No injuries were reported in connection with the fire at a 2½-story home near the intersection of 12th Street and Brinton Avenue, Pitcairn Assistant Fire Chief Tommy Dick reported.

He said the occupants were outside the home when firefighters arrived shortly after 7 p.m.

Smoke and flames could be seen coming from the roof, the chief said.

Dick said firefighters made quick entry and discovered the fire had gotten to the walls in the upper half of the structure.

Pitcairn’s fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.

Dick said there were no issues with water or manpower at the scene.

Firefighters from Wilmerding, Turtle Creek, Monroeville, Forest Hills, Wilkins and North Huntingdon also responded to the call.

“Everybody we called, they came with good guys,” said Dick. “We had plenty of guys there to start the operation right away.”

Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services assisted emergency responders with snacks and drinks.

Crews began clearing the scene shortly before 9 p.m. It’s unclear if the house is a total loss.
