Pittsburgh couple's virus song goes viral on YouTube
A Pittsburgh couple used their housebound time to fight back at coronavirus with a parody song.
Claire and Mel Vatz based their “We’re All Home Bound” on the Simon & Garfunkel classic “Homeward Bound.”
The couple sent the video to about 35 friends and family Sunday night. The YouTube video has now been viewed more than a half million times and it’s getting even more attention on Facebook.
“We were clueless and totally taken aback by the reaction,” Mel told WGN radio in Chicago.
Mel is an attorney and Claire is a speech pathologist. Mel told WGN they are both able to work from home via video conference during the coronavirus outbreak restrictions.
The couple has a history of composing for family and friends.
“We like to write stupid parody songs,” Mel told WGN. ”We do them for weddings, anniversaries and birthdays.”
“This one just seemed to hit a nerve,” he told host John Williams. “Believe me, we are stunned.”
The couple came up with the toilet paper verse while out on a social distancing walk with friends.
“This is our reality,” Mel told WGN. “It was pretty easy to write.”
Looking to sing along? Here are the lyrics:
I’m sitting here in isolation, waiting for a vaccination
Stock market’s down, the stores are closed
Retirement plans are surely hosed
Toilet paper’s running low, it’s a good thing I don’t have to go …
We’re all homebound
How long will we
Still be homebound
Home, keeping social distance
Home, without friends’ assistance
Home, the government’s insistence
Stuck in our houses
I’m getting used to sleeping late
Should clean the house, but it can wait
I try to work from my PC
But soon, the fridge is calling me
I eat some snacks, turn on TV
Without Netflix, what would life be?
We’re all homebound
How long will we
Still be homebound
Home, ‘til the virus dies out
Home, ‘til the groceries run out
Home, ‘til the wine’s all drunk
We’re stuck in our houses
So please, just stay in your own space
Don’t shave so you don’t touch your face
Wash your hands until they’re raw
For 20 seconds, that’s the law
The curve will flatten, we’ll have seen
The ending to covid-19
We’re all homebound
How long will we
Still be homebound
Home ‘til the virus dies out
Home ‘til the groceries run out
Home ‘til the wine’s all drunk
And we have defeated
Coronavirus
How does this compare to Simon and Garfunkel’s version?
