Pittsburgh firefighter accused of sex offenses with a minor in Virginia
A Pittsburgh firefighter has been arrested in Virginia and charged with multiple sexual offenses involving a minor.
Brian Kosanovich was taken into custody Tuesday by FBI agents at a restaurant in Midlothian, Va., after making arrangements for sex with who he thought was a 10-year-old girl and her mother.
Kosanovich has been on unpaid administrative leave pending an administrative investigation, according to Pittsburgh Public Safety spokesman Chris Togneri.
According to the federal criminal complaint, Kosanovich faces a charge of coercion and enticement. In bringing that charge, an FBI agent cited “relevant statutory provisions” of taking indecent liberties with children and use of communications system to facilitate offenses involving children.
The criminal complaint states agents used a covert social media account on Alt.com, “a network for members interested in alternative forms of sexual relationships and friendships.”
Kosanovich allegedly wrote to who he thought was a mother in November via the user name “bk11t” and identified himself as a 50-year-old man from Pittsburgh.
Federal documents show he also used the name “eat17” on Kik, an online mobile messaging app, and their conversation quickly turned sexual in nature.
Messages went back and forth into January and a phone call in February.
Court documents show they discussed sex toys and various sexual acts.
Togneri said the charges against the firefighter “are deeply disturbing.”
“As this is an ongoing case, we will have no further comment at this time,” he said.
