A Pittsburgh firefighter tested positive for covid-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, the city announced Wednesday.

Public Safety is not releasing the name or work location of the individual.

The firefighter has not worked since March 26. He or she began experiencing symptoms March 27, while self-isolating at home.

Officials have identified seven fellow firefighters who came in contact with the infected individual the last time he or she worked. None are showing symptoms of the disease, but all have been instructed to self-quarantine.

Fire officials are checking in with all of the affected firefighters daily. In addition, equipment and gear the infected firefighter used is being thoroughly cleaned.
