Garbage collection in the city of Pittsburgh will resume Monday after being delayed due to concerns about the coronavirus and thunderstorm warnings, city officials said.

Collection was halted last week due to concerns about the coronavirus. Crews on Saturday were able to collect most of the leftover trash and recycling, but were forced to stop work due to thunderstorm warnings, the city said.

Some trash and recycling still left at curbsides will be collected Monday. The city asked residents to keep trash properly bagged and tied.

The city is following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines for trash handlers, which include regular cleaning of buildings and trucks.

Workers are provided with protective glasses and gloves, sanitary wipes to clean equipment, disposable plastic gloves to wear under their gloves and are encouraged to wash uniforms daily. The city also is staggering start times to limit interaction.
