When Americans were asked to name the rudest cities in the country, Pittsburgh landed about in the middle.

The Steel City ranked 23 out of the top 50 metro areas, according to a new Business Insider survey of 2,092 adults.

Poll respondents were asked in October and November to choose the five rudest cities from a list of the 50 largest.

Three of Pittsburgh’s Ohio neighbors fared about the same. Cleveland was slightly less kind at 19th, Cincinnati a bit better at 24th and Columbus not doing too badly in the 31st slot.

Philadelphia, the City of Brotherly Love, was perceived as much more rude in ninth place.

Steelers’ rival Baltimore was viewed as pretty darn rude in eighth place, with Buffalo giving an even colder shoulder at number seven.

The city with the rudest reputation was New York. Hey, with 9 million people living that close together you might expect a little friction.
