A Pittsburgh man pleaded guilty in federal court Monday to defrauding Pittsburgh-area banks, according to U.S. Attorney Scott W. Brady.
Deshaun A. McGeorge, 27, is scheduled for sentencing on June 18.
McGeorge and two others were indicted by a federal grand jury for the conspiracy that occurred between February and August 2015, according to court papers. They are accused of getting account information after communicating with bank account holders through social media and text messages with an offer to make money quickly.
The suspects would then have the account holders make mobile deposits of counterfeit checks and have them withdraw the funds, according to the indictment. The suspects would give the account holder a small percentage of the funds and keep the rest for themselves, the indictment said.
McGeorge faces up to 30 years in prison, a fine of $1 million or both.
