Pittsburgh man pleads to voluntary manslaughter in 2018 slaying

A Pittsburgh man already serving time in federal prison for his part in a West End drug ring was sentenced Thursday to state prison time for the 2018 slaying of another man.

Rashem Littleberry, 29, was sentenced to 4.5 to 9 years in prison after pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the death of De’Von Dozier.

Pittsburgh police found Dozier bleeding to death from a gunshot wound to the femur on June 14, 2018, after they were called to a Crafton Heights apartment, according to a criminal complaint. Dozier, bloodied and wounded, had burst through the door of the apartment and collapsed in the doorway, police said.

Investigators followed the blood trail to a different apartment, where they found pools of blood, a spent bullet and a spent 9mm casing, according to the complaint. The bullet was found in the entryway hall, and the casing was found just outside the hallway.

Two witnesses who were in the apartment where the shooting happened told police that Dozier and Littleberry were the only ones in the entryway when the shooting happened, according to the complaint. Both witnesses said they fled when they heard the gunfire.

Police questioned Littleberry about Dozier’s death the next day after he was arrested on unrelated charges, according to the complaint. He told investigators he didn’t know who shot Dozier.

Littleberry told police he thought the shot that killed Dozier came from outside, investigators wrote. Told that wasn’t possible, he said he normally carries a gun but didn’t have it with him at when Dozier was shot, according to the complaint.

A federal judge last year sentenced Littleberry to 18 months in prison for his part in a heroin ring run by the Greenway Boy Killas gang. The drug ring operated out of the Greenway housing projects in the West End.
