A Pittsburgh man was sentenced to nine months in prison and ordered to pay nearly $422,000 in restitution for federal tax and Social Security fraud, federal authorities announced Friday.

Chief U.S. District Judge Mark R. Hornak imposed the sentence on Robert Alan Seth Sr., 58. He was also sentenced to serve two years of supervised release after his imprisonment.

Authorities said Seth filed a false 2013 individual income tax return by failing to report income from his general contracting business, RAS & Sons in Carnegie.

As part of his guilty plea, Seth also accepted responsibility for filing a false individual tax return for 2012 and for failing to file personal income tax returns for 2008 through 2011 and 2013, as well as corporate income tax returns for 2008 through 2014 for RAS & Sons.

He was ordered to pay more than $173,000, plus interest, in restitution for back taxes to the Internal Revenue Service.

Authorities said Seth also fraudulently collected Social Security Disability Insurance benefits for himself and his minor child between January 2009 and July 2017 totaling close to $250,000 by failing to report his employment activity as the owner and operator of RAS & Sons general contracting business. He was ordered to pay that back to the Social Security Administration.
