Violence Monday night in Pittsburgh’s East Liberty neighborhood led to 22 arrests for failure to disperse and disorderly conduct, according to police.

Pittsburgh police and city officials have said a small group broke off from what had been an hours-long peaceful protest and began to vandalize several businesses, though some protesters have disputed that version of events.

The melee prompted police to use smoke and tear gas to force out the crowd. Two protesters and nine officers were injured.

The following people were arrested in the aftermath of the chaos, all on charges of failure to disperse and disorderly conduct, according to online court documents. Records show that all have been released pending preliminary hearings.

• Megan Campbell, 25, of Millvale, who is also charged with possession of an instrument of crime, according to online court records

• Simon Phillips, 26, of Pittsburgh

• Anna Rosati, 25, of Pittsburgh

• Juliana Rossi, 22, of Irwin

• Whitney Sigall, 30, of Pittsburgh

• Lelia Skinner, 20, of Hudson, Ohio

• Byron Stevens, 20, of Pittsburgh

• Regan Tischler, 21, of Pittsburgh

• Elizabeth Wagner, 32, of Riverhead, N.Y.

• Cody Williamson, 25, of Penn Hills

• Jordan Wirick, 20, of Pittsburgh
