A Pittsburgh police recruit officer was injured on Dec. 30 during an arrest in the Hill District.

A Pittsburgh police recruit officer was injured Monday during an arrest in the Hill District, officials said.

The officer was kicked in the face by a disorderly man who was resisting arrest, according to Cara Cruz, Pittsburgh public safety spokeswoman.

Cruz said the the suspect appeared to be suffering from a psychiatric issue or intoxication.

The man, who was not wearing shoes or socks, became violent when police were called to the scene just before 8 p.m. along the 2800 block of Webster Avenue.

The officer was taken to Mercy Hospital, where he was treated for a cut on his cheek and was in stable condition.
