Pittsburgh police post policies online to increase transparency
Pittsburgh police policies can now be found online, a move that police brass said is an effort to promote departmental transparency.
“Police are here to serve and protect the public, and they do so on a daily basis,” said Public Safety Director Wendell Hissrich. “Transparency is a key component of building relationships with the community, and this is a positive and important step in that direction.”
The bureau previously posted several polices online, but Chief Scott Schubert wanted them all placed online, spokesman Chris Togneri said.
Togneri said only the vehicle pursuit policy will not be posted, and that’s for legal reasons. The policy pertaining to intelligence will be posted once a review determines whether any parts should be redacted, he said.
“The Pittsburgh Bureau of Police believes strongly in being transparent,” Schubert said. “Transparency fosters trust.”
