Pittsburgh Public Schools offers 4th-quarter grading options, public input sought by noon Tuesday

Pittsburgh Public Schools Superintendent Anthony Hamlet is looking for feedback from the broader school community on two options for fourth-quarter grading guidelines.

Two new options were developed following school board input Wednesday to present changes to the grading guidelines due to the covid-19 pandemic.

In response to the state mandate that “every school offer planned instruction at every grade level for all students,” the district has developed two grading guideline options.

The options are similar, with both plans including grades closing for seniors May 29 on kindergarten through 11th grade on June 12.

Beginning last Friday, student assignments will be collected, reviewed and assigned a grade toward course completion.

All students are expected to engage in remote learning with standards in reading, language arts, writing, and mathematics being monitored.

The only difference in the plans is in one, dubbed Option A, says that students who do not engage in remote learning would be placed on a “support plan” beginning in August.

The deadline to respond is noon on Tuesday.
