Caliente Pizza owner brews up a new craft beer week
There won’t be Pittsburgh Craft Beer Week this year, but a similar week of events is still brewing.
Caliente Craft Beer Week will be held April 26-May 5 at all five locations of Caliente Pizza & Draft House in Bloomfield, Hampton, Mt. Lebanon, Aspinwall and Monroeville.
The pizza and beer business, owned by Nick Bogacz, has been one of the event’s sponsors the past five years. Bogacz and served on the board from 2014-16.
Pittsburgh Craft Beer Week posted about the event not happening on its Facebook page but encouraged people to keep supporting local breweries.
“It takes a lot to put on Pittsburgh Craft Beer Week, and I think once the board dissolved, it was hard to find volunteers, so I decided to do something,” Bogacz told the Tribune-Review on Monday.
He is planning beer-related happenings at all five stores such as a 20-tap IPA challenge, events featuring barrel-aged beers and even beer tastings paired with Girl Scout cookies. The stores each have 20-plus taps as well as more than 140 bottled beers.

“We love to host events pairing food and beer, and not just pizza and beer, which we know is always a good combination,” said Bogacz. “We will have a Detroit style pan pizza with a Michigan beer. So stop by and try something new.”
