Plum police accuse Penn Hills man of S&T Bank robbery last December
A Penn Hills man already accused of robbing a bank in Unity, Westmoreland County, in January is now accused of threatening to stab a bank clerk during the robbery of the S&T branch along Golden Mile Highway in Plum last December.
According to a police affidavit filed Wednesday, Demetriyaiss Lamar Holyfield, 26, is accused of robbery, terroristic threats and other charges. He was arraigned Wednesday.
A detective alleges Holyfield on Dec. 14 walked up to a clerk about 6 p.m. and handed her a folded up check with what turned out to be a plastic card inside.
The unfolded check had writing on it declaring it was a robbery and a warning: “Give me all your money or I’ll stab you in the back.”
The suspect fled with about $4,100 and disappeared despite a search by officers and a police dog.
The robber wore khaki pants, a pulled-up gray hoodie, ski mask and a glove on his left hand.
According to the affidavit, on Jan. 17, Greensburg state police served a search warrant on Holyfield’s residence in connection with a robbery of a bank in Unity. A number of items allegedly were found in the residence, including the clothing of the type and color worn by the S&T and Unity bank robber in surveillance photos.
Police also allegedly found $3,506 and multiple threatening notes written on checks.
District Judge Linda Zucco ordered Holyfeld held in the Allegheny County Jail in Pittsburgh in lieu of $10,000 bond in connection with the Plum robbery while he awaits a preliminary hearing Sept. 4.
According to court records, Holyfield waived charges to court for the Unity robbery in January.
He is charged in both the bank robbery cases with two counts of robbery, and single counts of theft, receiving stolen property and terroristic threats.
