Monroeville teen charged as an adult in Leslie Road shooting
A 16-year-old who police said shot an 18-year-old in Monroeville on Tuesday night has been charged as an adult.
Rayshaun Jackson, 16, allegedly shot an 18-year-old man in the torso twice around 9:30 p.m. in front of a house along the 100 block of Leslie Road and then fled to his house on Coleman Drive – a mere block away, according to a criminal complaint.
The victim, whom police have not identified, was left shot in his car, a silver Toyota Prius.
He suffered “serious, life-threatening injuries” but is expected to survive, police Chief Doug Cole said.
The man was treated at Forbes Hospital.
Detectives were able to trace Jackson’s whereabouts around 10 p.m., about a half-hour after the shooting, by using a Penn Hills K9 officer, according to the complaint.
The dog led police to a shed on Coleman Drive, where police later found a Colt .38 Special revolver under a carpet with three spent casings and three empty chambers, police said in the complaint.
In the house, police found Jackson along with two other people, according to the complaint.
Police also found a pair of shoes in the Coleman Drive house that matched the prints seen in the snow outside near the shooting that led to the house and the shed, according to the complaint.
In an interview with police, Jackson said he had arranged to buy marijuana from a man he never met, according to the complaint.
As he went to hand money to pay for the pot, Jackson told police the other man told him “I’m about to shoot you,” according to the complaint.
Jackson said he felt threatened, pulled out his gun and fired “one or two rounds,” according to the complaint.
Police did not know if there was a weapon in the victim’s car, according to the complaint
Jackson faces three felonies, including attempted homicide, aggravated assault and carrying a firearm without a license. He also faces misdemeanor counts of possession of a firearm by a minor, recklessly endangering and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence.
Court records do not list an attorney for Jackson.
