A man wanted in connection with an alleged violent home invasion in Dormont was arrested Tuesday, according to Allegheny County police.
Police had been looking for Joel Hatfield, 28, no address, since Sunday morning. Police say that’s when Hatfield went to a man’s apartment armed with a knife and forced his way inside with the intent to rob him.
Allegheny County Police arrested Hatfield without incident on charges of aggravated assault, burglary and simple assault, police said. He remained in the Allegheny County Jail in Pittsburgh on Thursday morning after failing to post $100,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is set for Jan. 2.
Dormont Police were called to the the apartment in the 1500 block of Kelton Avenue at about 8:45 a.m. for an attempted home invasion robbery.
A man at the apartment heard noises at his apartment door, went to investigate and was confronted by Hatfield, who had a knife, police said.
Police said Hatfield forced himself into the apartment and fought with the man.
During the fight, the man hit Hatfield in the head with a pistol. The man also fired a shot from the pistol, which missed Hatfield. Hatfield then ran away, police said.
Witnesses reported that two other unidentified people were hiding outside the apartment and ran from the area with Hatfield, police said. Police didn’t have a description of those people as of Thursday.
