Police charge suspect in West Mifflin homicide
Allegheny County Police have charged a man accused of fatally shooting another man in a West Mifflin apartment complex, according to arrest papers filed Wednesday.
Daymond “Day Day” Wiggins, 37, of West Mifflin is charged with homicide in the death of Thomas Johnson, 45, of Duquesne.
First responders found Johnson dead with gunshot wounds to the face and head Monday night at Mon View Apartments.
Investigators questioned a witness who was a friend of the victim. The witness, who officials have not identified, told investigators he and Johnson were standing outside in the apartment complex when Wiggins walked up to Johnson, pulled a gun and fired multiple times, according to court documents.
The witness pulled his own gun and returned fire, but didn’t hit Wiggins. The witness then ran away, the documents said.
A second witness who was walking through the apartment complex confirmed the story, according to investigators.
The court paperwork does not include details about the motive for the shooting.
Wiggins has a previous assault conviction stemming from a 2002 shooting at a West Mifflin basketball court, and is not allowed to own a firearm, according the court documents.
Police filed charges and requested a warrant for Wiggins’ arrest Wednesday. It could not be determined if Wiggins is in custody.
