Police: Former Collier cop asked teenage girls for nude pictures
A former Collier police officer was arrested after two teenage girls told authorities that he requested nude pictures while he was still employed as a police officer, authorities said.
Cory Hurka, 29, of Collier, was charged Tuesday with two counts each of unlawful contact with minors, criminal solicitation and corruption of minors. All of the charges are felonies.
Hurka’s attorney Blaine Jones said he is in the process of reviewing the charges.
“The bottom line is these are accusations, there is no conviction that I’m aware of, and we are going to prep the case and go to court and be ready to proceed,” Jones said.
Allegheny County Police said they received a request Oct. 2 from Collier Township Police to help investigate a report that Hurka was requesting nude images from “several minor-age females,” according to a criminal complaint filed in the case.
At the time of the request, Hurka was still employed as a township police officer. Two days later, he was suspended from his duties, the complaint said. He resigned from his position on Dec. 3.
The girls told police that Hurka added his contact information to their Snapchat accounts when they were employees of The Sun Club tanning salon in The Great Southern Shopping Center in Collier. He messaged them and asked them to send him nude photos through the app, according to the complaint.
One of the alleged victims, who is now 19, told investigators that Hurka started talking to her when she was 16 years old.
She told police Hurka visited the salon almost daily to tan or talk with the owners or employees. At times, Hurka would come into the salon in his police uniform, the complaint said.
The alleged victim told police that Hurka would ask her to have sex with him, to get in the same tanning bed with him and for nude pictures, according to the complaint. He also sent her sexually suggestive pictures of himself, the victim said.
The woman told police she didn’t send Hurka any nude pictures.
The complaint said the woman told investigators that Hurka’s interactions made her “extremely uncomfortable,” but she was afraid to go to the police because of Hurka’s position as a police officer. She said after she quit her job in 2018 because of the continued harassment and moved away from the area, Hurka’s messages stopped, the complaint said.
The other teen, now 17, said Hurka began talking with her when she started working at the tanning salon in February 2018. She was 15 at the time.
The second teen told police that Hurka visited the salon in uniform and while on duty. At some time in March or April 2018, she said he added his Snapchat information to her cellphone.
According to the teen, Hurka began “flirting” with her through Snapchat, complimenting her looks and asking her to go out with him.
The alleged victim told police that she told Hurka she was 15. She said he then began sending her sexually suggestive photos, according to the complaint.
She said she and Hurka discussed Hurka buying her electronic cigarettes in exchange for nude pictures, the complaint said. She said she didn’t send him any nude pictures.
The teen said she told the other victim about her interactions with Hurka, and also told other salon employees. She told police she began to ignore Hurka when he came into the salon, and she stopped responding to his messages.
The teen was fired from the salon in August, according to the complaint. She told police that she hadn’t had any recent contact with Hurka at the time she was interviewed by police.
Hurka was released on $25,000 bond Wednesday. A preliminary hearing is set for Dec. 16.
