Pittsburgh police have identified a man they say fell from a second-story rooftop while trying to get away from officers Sunday afternoon along McClure Street.

Eric Vaughn, 27, of Pittsburgh, was in serious condition at a local hospital after the fall.

Police spokesman Chris Togneri said Zone 1 officers on patrol in the 3100 block of McClure Avenue around 5 p.m. spotted a man wanted in connection with a burglary and an illegal gun charge.

Police said Vaughn ran into the home of acquaintance Shane Kumanchik, 25, and officers found him found him flat on his stomach on the roof.

Vaughn got up and jumped onto two neighboring roofs one after another before jumping two stories to an alley below, according to police.

In addition to the burglary and gun charge, Vaughn also faces burglary, flight to avoid prosecution, escape and resisting arrest in connection with the events Sunday, according to state court records.

Police said they also arrested Kumanchik for allegedly hindering apprehension.

He is free on nonmonetary bond pending a May 29 preliminary hearing.
