Pittsburgh police are investigating a large fight at a Downtown Pittsburgh nightclub early Sunday morning during which a man fired a gun, a public safety spokesman said.

No one was struck by gunfire, spokesman Chris Togneri said.

Officers were called to the nightclub in the 100 block of 7th Street just before 1 a.m. for a report of a large fight followed by shots fired.

When they arrived, they found a large group of people outside the nightclub, which Togneri did not name.

According to the initial investigation, the fight, which involved patrons and bouncers, started inside the nightclub and moved outside. During the fight, a man pulled out a gun and fired it. Police recovered casings in the street.

Togneri said a witness told police that a man in a yellow vehicle had a gun. Officers stopped the vehicle, detained the man, and recovered his registered gun.

Witness statements and video were used in determining the man had not fired his gun. The gun didn’t match the casings found at the scene, and multiple witnesses confirmed the man hadn’t fired his gun, Togneri said.

No arrests had been made in connection to the incident as of Sunday afternoon, Togneri said. Police continue to interview witnesses and collect video.

Anyone who might have witnessed the fight or shooting is asked to call detectives at 412-255-2827.
