Police investigating multiple break-ins near the University of Pittsburgh in Oakland

Pittsburgh police are investigating a series of burglaries that took place near the University of Pittsburgh campus this month.

None of the victims were home when the burglaries took place, nor was anyone injured in any of the incidents. There is no description given of any possible suspects.

And there was another common thread: There were no signs of forced entry in any of the cases.

The most recent burglary was reported this weekend in the 3600 block of Dawson Street in Oakland, according to a crime alert on the university’s website. It occurred between noon on Friday and 1:30 a.m on Sunday.

The victim told police that someone got into her residence through a bedroom window and stole cash and video games, the alert said.

Another burglary was reported in the same block between 8:30 p.m. Nov. 15 and 12:30 a.m. Nov. 16. The victims told police that someone got into their residence through a living room window and stole cash.

Three other burglaries were reported Nov. 8 and Nov 9 in Oakland, according to a crime alert.

The first one occurred in the 300 block of McKee Place between 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 8.

The second occurred in the 300 block of Meyran Avenue between 8:45 p.m. Nov. 8 and midnight Nov. 9. The third occurred in the 300 block of McKee Place between 7 p.m. Nov. 8 and 6:40 p.m. Nov. 9.

Police said the suspect in those burglaries made off with cash, credit cards and a football jersey, the alert said.

Pittsburgh police are investigating yet another burglary that occurred Nov. 15, this time in the 5800 block of Elwood Street, Shadyside.

According to a crime alert, someone broke into a residence through a bedroom window. They stole a jar of quarters and a wallet containing iTunes gift cards between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m., police said.

Pittsburgh Police couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.

University spokesman Kevin Zwick said the university encourages students to secure windows and doors and to report suspicious persons and crime incidents to university police at 412-624-2121 or Pittsburgh police at 412-422-6520.
