A woman driving a SUV the wrong way on Route 28 early Thursday was stopped only when an Etna officer pulled his vehicle into her path, Shaler police said.

The driver, Samantha Compliment, 27, went to a hospital with minor injuries and was released, said Shaler police Lt. J. Sean Frank.

Compliment was the only one in the SUV.

The Etna officer wasn’t named. Frank said he had minor injuries and didn’t require immediate medical attention.

Shaler is investigating because an Etna officer was in the crash, he said.

Frank said the case is under investigation and driving under the influence charges are pending against Compliment.

Police are trying to find out, among other things, how far Compliment was driving in the opposing lanes of traffic, where she entered Route 28, and how fast her SUV was traveling when she hit the officer’s vehicle.

Staff writer Chuck Biedka contributed to this report.
