Pittsburgh police responded to a man who accidentally shot himself while waiting for a bus downtown Wednesday night.

Responding to reports of a gunshot on Fort Duquesne Boulevard and Seventh Street shortly after 10 p.m., officers found the man who had been searching through his backpack when he triggered his own gun, officials said.

The man shot himself in the left leg. He was transported to the hospital in stable condition.

Officers did a check on the firearm, which was legally registered to the man. Police are investigating the incident.
