A pit bull was shot and killed by Pittsburgh police in what started as a report of two dogs fighting, according to a release from the bureau of police.
Officers were called to the intersection of Viola Street and Catoctin Way in the Perry North section of Pittsburgh’s North Side shortly after 4:30 p.m. where they found a poodle covered in blood and a pit bull that had been stabbed by its owner, according to the release.
The wounded pit bull charged one of the responding officers, who then shot and killed the dog, officials said. Nobody was injured in the altercation.
The owner of the poodle, who took the dog to the veterinarian, told police the pit bull was not on a leash when it attacked her dog. To try and get the dog to release the poodle, the pit bull’s owner stabbed and pepper sprayed his dog multiple times, police said.
The owner of the pit bull may face charges for the dog being off a leash. Officers are investigating.
