Allegheny County Police on Monday released a description of a car that could be connected to the suspect in a violent Dormont home invasion.

Police have been looking for Joel Hatfield, 28, no known address, since Sunday.

Police say Hatfield, while armed with a knife, forced his way into an apartment in the 1500 block of Kelton Avenue on Sunday morning, and attempted to rob the man living there.

Police say Hatfield may be travelling in a grey Chevrolet Cruze bearing Pennsylvania registration GGA 5422. The car was taken without the owner’s permission from South Park, and was last seen Monday afternoon in Bethel Park.

Hatfield is homeless, but is known to frequent the Dormont area, police said.

He is 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighs 160 pounds. He was last seen wearing a blue and white hooded sweatshirt, and may have a cut on his head, police said.

Dormont Police were called to the the apartment at about 8:45 a.m. for an attempted home invasion robbery.

Police said, when the victim heard noises at his apartment door and went to investigate, he was confronted by Hatfield, who had a knife.

Police said Hatfield forced himself into the victim’s apartment and a struggle ensued.

During the struggle, the victim struck Hatfield in the head with a pistol. The victim also fired a shot from the pistol, which missed Hatfield. Hatfield then ran away, police said.

Witnesses reported that two other unidentified people were hiding outside the apartment and ran from the area with Hatfield, police said. There was no immediate description provided of those people.

Police issued an arrest warrant for Hatfield on Sunday. He is charged with aggravated assault, burglary and simple assault.
