Waterworks carjacking suspect jailed in connection with Downtown Pittsburgh parking garage robbery
A 21-year-old Pittsburgh man in jail on charges he allegedly robbed a woman in a Downtown parking garage robbery is also suspected in Saturday’s carjacking at The Waterworks mall near Aspinwall, a police spokesman said.
Michael Lipovsik III, of Perry South, was arrested later Saturday on separate charges stemming from a Dec. 6 robbery at a parking garage on Smithfield Street, according to Pittsburgh Department of Public Safety spokesman Maurice Matthews said.
Matthews said Thursday that Lipovsik also is a suspect in The Waterworks carjacking case.
At about 8:40 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21, a man was napping in his car while his wife was shopping when an intruder opened the door, pulled him out and drove away, police said. The sleeping man wasn’t hurt, and the car was later recovered on Pittsburgh’s North Side, police said.
Lipovsik hasn’t been charged in the carjacking, according to online court records, as the auto squad continues to investigate, but Lipovsik is the suspect, Matthews said.
But Lipovsik is charged with robbing a woman Dec. 6 inside a parking garage. Police say he changed his clothing to mask his appearance.
Lipovsik is in Allegheny County Jail in Pittsburgh on $25,000 bail facing charges including robbery and possessing instruments of crime.
