A Wilkinsburg teenager told police he fired about six shots at his girlfriend’s brother with a borrowed gun Sunday evening because he feared for his own safety, according to a criminal complaint filed against him.

Robert Cook, 17, was taken into custody at his home after the shooting, which happened about 5:35 p.m. in the 1000 block of Penn Avenue.

Wilkinsburg police found Jordan Hunt, 19, with a gunshot wound to his stomach. Hunt was taken to UPMC Presbyterian hospital in Oakland where he was listed in critical condition. Hunt told police he was shot by “Tre” who is dating his sister, according to a criminal complaint.

Cook was taken to Allegheny County police headquarters, where he told police that, over the past few months, he and Hunt have been arguing because Cook is dating Hunt’s sister.

About two months ago, Hunt pointed an AK-47 at Cook and Cook moved out of town because he was afraid of being shot, he told police.

Before the shooting Sunday, Cook told police he was walking on Penn Avenue when Hunt passed by in a car. Based on Hunt’s gestures and the way he acted when he saw Cook, Cook became concerned, he told police.

Cook went to a Swissvale home where relatives live, asked for a gun and obtained a silver revolver, he told police.

Cook left and saw Hunt on Penn Avenue and he fired six times, with the first shot hitting Hunt in the stomach, police said.

Cook told police he kept firing because Hunt didn’t run away.

Cook is facing adult charges of attempted homicide, aggravated assault, carrying a firearm without a license and possessing a firearm as a minor.

He is in Allegheny County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bond.
