Three people were injured in an early morning, wrong-way crash on the Boulevard of the Allies in Pittsburgh.

According to police, the crash happened just before 3 a.m. when it appears a vehicle was driving westbound into the oncoming eastbound traffic on the Boulevard of the Allies. The car eventually struck the concrete median.

Police said the female driver and passenger were trapped and had to be freed by firefighters.

The driver was transported to UPMC Mercy hospital in critical condition and the passenger was in stable condition.

Police said two other vehicles traveling in the eastbound lane sustained damage in the collision. One of those drivers was taken to Mercy in stable condition. The other driver wasn’t hurt.

The crash closed the Boulevard of the Allies in both directions until the scene was cleared.

The Collision Investigation Unit is investigating.
