President Trump to visit Pittsburgh next week
President Donald Trump will give keynote remarks next week at an annual gathering of the oil and gas industries in Pittsburgh.
Trump is scheduled to attend the Shale Insight conference Oct. 23 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh’s Downtown, conference organizers announced Wednesday.
He is expected to discuss job creation, economic and environmental progress as well as national security, according to a statement from conference organizers.
This is the second time Trump has attended the conference, hosted by the Marcellus Shale Coalition, the Ohio Oil and Gas Association and the West Virginia Oil and Natural Gas Association.
He delivered the conference’s closing remarks as a candidate in 2016, promising to lift regulatory restrictions, streamline permitting processes and facilitate the construction of more pipelines.
Trump last visited the region in August to tour the Royal Dutch Shell ethane cracker plant construction in Beaver County.
Pittsburgh Public Safety Director Wendell Hissrich said the city was alerted late last week that the president would be visiting Pittsburgh.
“We’ll be all hands on deck next Wednesday,” Hissrich said.
Pittsburgh police, fire and EMS will all be involved in working with the Secret Service and other partner agencies to secure the convention center, Hissrich said.
“Traffic problems will probably become somewhat concerning in the afternoon,” he said. “That’s our understanding as to when he will arrive here in Pittsburgh, and depart a few hours later.”
