The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra has canceled the remaining concerts for the 2019-20 season.
In a release, PSO cited continued restrictions on public gatherings, evolving government guidance and an effort to “protect its audiences, musicians, employees and community from the spread of covid-19” for the cancellation.
“It is painful to need to take this action, but we know it is in the best interest of the health and safety of the community, and that must always be our top priority,” said Melia Tourangeau, president and CEO of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.
“Summer is around the corner and we are looking at alternative plans to bring music to our community in new and unique ways during the ‘yellow’ phase of Allegheny County’s opening, whether that be our outdoor performances, digital offerings or small gatherings with ensembles from the orchestra.”

The canceled concerts include:
• BNY Mellon Grand Classics: Bronfman Plays Beethoven from June 19 to June 21
• Star Wars: Return of the Jedi from June 26 to June 28
• PNC Pops: Bugs Bunny at the Symphony from June 30 to July 2
• In Honor of Service: An Americana Concert on July 3
• Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban™ – In Concert from July 10 to July 12.
Some concerts, including the Star Wars, Bugs Bunny and Harry Potter events, could be rescheduled for a future season, according to the release.
The orchestra also announced that its European tour scheduled to begin in late August would not take place.
