Two minor crashes on Route 28 snarled traffic during Friday’s afternoon rush-hour commute.

Emergency dispatchers received a report of the first crash at about 5:30 p.m. in the southbound lanes at the 40th Street Bridge near Millvale, an Allegheny County 911 shift commander said. The scene was cleared in less than an hour.

A second crash was reported near O’Hara and the Waterworks shopping plaza. State police are investigating.

No one was seriously injured in either incident.

From 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., traffic remained slow-moving along the southbound lanes of Route 28 and Freeport Road headed toward Downtown Pittsburgh and along the 40th Street Bridge headed toward the city’s Lawrenceville neighborhood.

No further information about the crashes was immediately available.

Other routes into the city, including Interstate 376, also showed traffic backlogs headed into Friday night’s Penguins game against the Montreal Canadiens. The puck drops at 7 p.m. at PPG Paints Arena.
