Pittsburgh’s popular haunted attraction ScareHouse is transforming.
The creators of ScareHouse, formerly housed on Locust Street in Etna, will present a new attraction called “The Scream District” in a new temporary home in the Strip District. An exact location has not been revealed.
The new iteration of the ScareHouse will encompass “The Basement,” a feature of the old attraction, and a new offering: an escape room called “Stalked By a Killer,” in which guests will have 60 minutes to outwit a deranged serial killer.

“We want to bring something entirely new to Halloween fans this year, experiences that draw them into frightfully fun worlds that envelop them in ways that go far beyond a traditional ‘haunt,’ ” ScareHouse creative director Scott Simmons said in a statement. “For loyal fans of ScareHouse and guests who are excited to do something different at Halloween, a visit to The Scare District is an evening they won’t forget.”
Both experiences will operate on select nights this fall through early November. An opening date has yet to be announced.
Not far away will be the Zombie Den, also presented by ScareHouse. That attraction, a pop-up bar inspired by Pittsburgh’s living dead legacy, will return beginning Sept. 24 to the Original Oyster House in Market Square.
The original ScareHouse is being revamped and will return to a new location in 2020, the release said.
