Sean McDowell has been on Steelers flagship radio station WDVE since 1993. He’s been on air in Pittsburgh since 1981. I spoke with him about his pending retirement which will happen on July 31.

LISTEN: Sean McDowell discusses retirement from WDVE

When McDowell made the announcement a few weeks ago, we wrote about it, so I decided to sit down with Sean and follow up on some of his career.

McDowell says it wasn’t always a smooth ride, especially at the start of his stint at DVE. But he has become part of the core of Pittsburgh radio.

We discuss all the changes in music formats, technology, and the on-air talent that has swirled around him.

Then there is the matter of his recent heart surgery and whether that played a role in his decision to step away from the microphone.

Also, if you click the podcast link, you’ll hear what song McDowell plans to play on his way out the studio.
