Two people died Sunday in a two-vehicle, head-on crash on Hulton Road in Penn Hills.
The crash, in the area of 930 Hulton Road was reported just after 5 p.m., an Allegheny County emergency dispatcher said.
According to Penn Hills police Chief Howard Burton, the crash occurred when one of the two vehicles involved attempted to pass a third in a no-passing area.
On Monday, the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the two people killed.
Ashley Nicole Giordano, 26, of Verona, was driving a Hyundai Sonata westbound and attempted to pass another car going in the same direction. Scott Bennett, 42, of Verona, was her passenger. They were both killed.
A man driving a Chevy Malibu traveling eastbound was struck. He was traveling alone and was taken to a hospital. He was expected to survive, Burton said.
The third vehicle was not hit, and that driver was a witness, Burton said.
Penn Hills School District officials Monday said Bennett was a Linton Middle School janitor.
”Scott was a great employee, and he’s worked for us for years,” school board President Erin Vecchio said. “The school district’s heartbroken.”
Burton could not say if alcohol or drugs were involved and did not know if any of those involved were wearing seat belts.
