Severe weather brings down trees, wires across Allegheny County
Severe weather that swept through the area Thursday evening caused down trees and flooding for several areas.
The National Weather Service issued severe thunderstorm warnings for parts of Western Pennsylvania until 5 p.m.
Parts of Washington, Beaver and Allegheny counties were included in the warning.
Allegheny County reported an unoccupied vehicle floating in flood waters in Duquesne; a downed tree closed Coal Valley Road in Jefferson Hills; a down pole and wires closed the 1000 block of Findley Drive in Wilkinsburg; a vehicle stuck in water on Coursin Road in Lincoln; cars stuck in water on Becks Run Road in Pittsburgh; a pole struck by lightning in the 100 block of Whipple Street in Pittsburgh; and a tree and wires down on Stanton Avenue in Stanton Heights.
The county also reported a lightning striking the rooftop of CCAC South Campus.
The storm caused Kennywood Amusement Park to close early.
According to the weather service, the storm had been expected to bring wind gusts of up to 60 mph.
The weather service had advised people not to drive through flooded roadways and to stay inside and away from windows.
