Sheriff deputy IDs, detains suspect in Reserve burglary on morning commute

Joseph Ferderbar, 42, of Pittsburgh, was arrested Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2020, by Allegheny County sheriff’s deputies on burglary warrants from Reserve.

An Allegheny County sheriff’s deputy started work earlier than planned Tuesday when he recognized a man walking in Pittsburgh’s Spring Hill neighborhood as the suspect in a Reserve burglary.

Deputy Robert Stipetich called out to Joseph Ferderbar, who was walking on Harpen Road. Stipetich told Ferderbar he had warrants for the burglary. He detained him until an on-duty sheriff’s deputy arrived to transport Ferderbar to Allegheny County Jail, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

Ferderbar is facing attempted burglary charges stemming from a Sunday incident in Reserve, according to online court records. He is being held on $20,000 bail.

Stipetich, a former Reserve police officer, has dealt with Ferderbar previously and had been talking with a former colleague in Reserve’s department about the burglary he was suspected in, according to the news release.

The Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office, Sheriff William Mullen and Chief Deputy Kevin Kraus thanked Stipetich for his work while he was off-duty.
