Son of WTAE-TV anchor Mike Clark dies in Colorado hiking accident
The son of a Pittsburgh television news anchor died in a hiking accident in Colorado over the weekend.
Matthew J. Clark, 26, of Denver, is the son of WTAE-TV evening anchor Mike Clark.
The television station shared their sympathies about the accident Monday afternoon.
According to WTAE, Matthew Clark was hiking with his friends Saturday in the Rocky Mountains when he slipped and fell a great distance. He was pronounced dead at the scene about an hour west of Denver, the station reported.
“All of us at WTAE are heartbroken for Mike and Terri and Matthew’s siblings, Michael, Anthony and Danielle. We are with them in this very difficult time,” the station said.
Clark’s family couldn’t be reached for comment.
According to his obituary, Clark was a 2012 graduate of Central Catholic High School. He became an ardent Buckeye fan while attending Ohio State University, and eventually settled in Colorado to pursue his passion for adventure and the outdoors.
“Matthew’s caring heart was rivaled only by his kind soul. He possessed an intelligent mind and deep compassion toward those who were less fortunate,” the obituary said.
Visitation will be Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. in Turtle Creek.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Maurice Church in Forest Hills.
